Hey! Thanks for asking. While I’m not an expert in appropriation, I will share my thoughts on it: The appropriation aspect for Black Panthers lies in the fact that though a person may be of African descent (Black), they may not be from the group. I can be black and not be Nigerian and when I wear things to make a statement without recognizing its purpose it comes off as appropriation. One of the major things that makes something like this an issue is who is the group that is using another culture’s items. Typically minorities have their cultural contributions ignored and only acknowledged when the most populous group recognizes it. Alyssa Parks
